When the Gas Runs Dry: What the Hormuz Crisis Means at Your Pump

The IEA is calling it the largest supply disruption in the history of the oil market, with millions of barrels of Gulf production offline. A June ceasefire briefly reopened the strait; the blockades have since resumed and crude is back over eighty dollars.

Here is the part the headlines keep missing: the tighter squeeze is refining, not crude. The world is straining to turn the oil it still has into gasoline and diesel. That means the risk at your level is not a national apocalypse. It is regional: spot outages, rationed stations, price spikes that arrive fast and leave slow, and diesel scarcity that works its way into everything trucks deliver.

What that means for a household, in numbers

Your car is not the whole exposure. Count everything that drinks fuel: vehicles, the generator you are counting on this hurricane season, the mower, the chainsaw.
